Sprite Bear is an iOS app designed for creating different formats of texture atlas such as Cocos2d, SpriteKit, EASELJS, XML, JSON, CSS etc.
Texture Atlases are similar to sprite sheets in that you group a lot of artwork into a single image. Texture Atlases however relay on another file, the atlas, which defines the x, y, width and height of the actual sprite on in the texture image.
In an application where many small textures are used frequently, it is often more efficient to store the textures in a texture atlas which is treated as a single unit by the graphics hardware. In particular, because there are less rendering state changes by binding once, it can be faster to bind one large texture once than to bind many smaller textures as they are drawn. This provides you with a way to improve the performance of your app by drawing multiple images with a single draw call. For example, a tile-based game would benefit greatly in performance from a texture atlas.
